Getting Your Holiday Home Ready For Winter

Plot

Located where we are, there is unfortunately a risk of flooding as I'm sure you are aware. We always advise that nothing is stored under your Holiday Homes for this exact reason.

Tidying your garden is also a recommended step to prepare for the winter. Nothing worse than having personal belongings covered in mud, rain and possibly flying away in high winds!

If your holiday home is located near trees, we advise that you clear the guttering before they get too clogged up with leaves!

All Gazebos are required to be packed away for the winter.

Winterization

A draindown of your Holiday Home is advised at the end of the season. This is to prevent the pipes from freezing over and causing issues in the long run. This is a service that we offer for our customers, should you require it. Please call the office for more information.

Dehumidifiers

We would recommend buying some Dehumidifiers to put in the main rooms of your Holiday Home, (Alternatively you could put bowls of salt in each room). Through the winter, these will capture the moisture in the air, keeping your Holiday Home from becoming damp. Please see photo below.

Ventilation

This is key to ensuring the fresh air flows through your Holiday Home. Examples of how to do this are below;

- Lifting mattresses up to get the air underneath
- Keeping all interior doors open
- Ensuring floor vents are open and clear

Electricals

It is up to the individual as to whether you keep your electric on or off over the winter. If you decide to leave the electric on, please note that Cosgrove may need to turn it off for works purposes.

We strongly advise that your Fridge Freezers are fully emptied, doors left open and main switch turned off.

Gas

If your Holiday Home is connected to the mains gas you do not need to do anything.

If your Holiday Home uses gas bottles, and you are in an area that is at risk of flooding, we strongly advise that the gas bottles are disconnected and stored either on a decking area or in a shed to prevent these being carried away in any potential floods.
