Looking back at our fantastic season July - Oct 18

<< Back to Blog list

We continued our events and activities through July with an open air live performance of a Steel Band on the grass area at Fountain View on Saturday 7th July, bringing the Caribbean to Cosgrove. With the weather continuing to be kind to us, our customers were able to sit outside the Bistro & Lanes 'N' Games soaking up the great sound.

As the sunshine continued, we decided to hire in a large 72inch TV so that we could show coverage of the World Cup 2018, third place game & Wimbledon outside Lanes 'N' Games. Even though England didn't win it was lovely to see our residents get together to support the team.

On Saturday14th July we had a Zip Wire experience which was brilliant with over 150 people taking part. It was great to see the children being brave and adventurous and with some Mums, Dads, Nannies and Grandads having a go!!!

Week commencing 16th July we had our 120ft x 40ft Marquee erected in the Event Field ready for the School Summer Holidays.  Every year we have entertainment on Fridays & Saturdays during the 6 weeks. This years Saturday night live acts included a Take That, Jersey Boys, The Supremes, Queen and Beatles Tribute Bands, a couple of Party Bands and a Peter Kay Comedian Tribute. We also had an amazing 8 piece 1940's Swing Band plus a male vocalist which bought over 200 of our customers to the marquee on Sunday 22nd July in the afternoon. We also treated these customers to a fabulous Afternoon Tea, being served in the middle of the 2 sets of the Band...… a great afternoon was had by all!  Then every Friday night we had our resident DJ - Terry whom entertained us with a range of brilliant club & dance hits going through all the genres of music. To make these Friday evenings a little bit different this year, we added an 'optional' fancy dress themes, which was great to see some of our customers really getting on board with this and making a massive effort.

Also, during the School Summer Holiday we offered Children's Fishing Lessons and with all the places being filled. it was fantastic to see so many children catching their first fish. I do believe some of these will be the future anglers of Cosgrove.

Then, sadly, on 29th July after sun, sun and more sun, we had our first really wet day. But it didn't stop the Children of Cosgrove enjoying the Climbing Wall activity, and it was great to see how excited the children were to reach the top and ring the bell.

With the end of the School Holiday approaching, everyone enjoyed the August Bank Holiday weekend, albeit a little wet at times! An RSPCA Charity Dog Show took place on the Saturday, with ourselves helping to raise money for the Charity. On the Sunday, it was a Family Fun Day, which included Face Painting, Henna Painting, Inflatable Slide, Merry Go-Round and Bungie Trampoline. A brilliant day to end the school holidays.

During September we had our second Open Weekend of the year, giving non-residents the opportunity to see what our delightful Park has to offer, with over 130 families visiting us over the 2 days, all hopefully wanting to return to us as a customer or resident sometime in the future. Then on 22nd September we worked together with our residents to support "Macmillan Coffee Morning", our event started at 10:30am and finished at 4:00pm, and even though the weather was rainy we raised £1,441.91, which was a fantastic amount for this charity.

Now onto our last month :-(

As always there was our 'End of Season Fireworks Display', with the added extra of releasing the 15 minutes of fireworks to Music (Disney - Frozen, Abba - Dancing Queen, Sigala - Lullaby & The William Tell Overture). It was great to see over 2,500 customers & their guests attending.

Then it was the final event of the Season …………………. Halloween.

We arranged a Pumpkin Hunt on Saturday 27th October and even though the weather was so mean to us, it was absolutely fabulous to see over 150 children participate, with so many children dressing up as well.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that have made 2018 Events & Activities a year to remember!

I hope that our customers have all made some wonderful memories !!!!
